Many of the services and programs at Emmaus Services for the Aging would not be possible, or able to reach as many seniors, without the support of our dedicated and compassionate volunteers. Here are some of the ways volunteers can help on a regular basis at Emmaus:
Grocery Bag Assembly - 2nd & 3rd Thursday of each month:
Between 1pm and 5pm we need all the volunteers we can get to help us bag and sort
groceries for delivery to low income & homebound seniors. Volunteers do not need a car.
Grocery Delivery - 2nd & 3rd Friday of each month:
Volunteers would need to show up at 10am and deliveries are usually over by 12:30pm. It
is great if volunteers have a car, but parking is sometimes difficult around these apartment
communities, and we often walk to these locations to deliver groceries.
Grocery Delivery - 3rd Saturday of each month:
Volunteers would need to show up around 9am. Deliveries are usually over by 1pm. It is
a big help if Saturday volunteers have their own vehicle, since there are many delivery
routes on Saturday.
Location:
We prepare and organize deliveries from our administrative offices at 1426 9th Street, NW
(corner of 9th & P Streets, NW). Our Center can easily be reached by taking the Green/
Yellow Lines to the Mt. Vernon Metro Station, and then walking a few blocks north on 9th
Street.
Additional opportunities:
We are always looking for dedicated volunteers interested in performing outreach services to seniors in
need. These services can include:
♥ holiday meal deliveries
♥ gift deliveries
♥ reassuring phone calls
♥ volunteer arts & crafts instructors
♥ volunteer computer class instructors
In addition, if you have an idea about how to bring your passion, skills, and abilities to serve seniors in
